Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) is kicking off 2026 with remarkable momentum, setting the tone for what promises to be another year of growth and connection for our region.
The first quarter of 2026 has officially become the strongest Q1 in the airport’s history, with 195,341 enplanements recorded. (For those unfamiliar with the term, enplanements refer to the total number of passengers boarding flights at an airport, a key indicator of air travel demand and overall airport activity.) This milestone represents nearly a 2% increase over the previous first-quarter record set in 2024, underscoring a steady upward trend in passenger traffic.
While a 2% increase might sound modest at first glance, in the context of air travel, it signals meaningful, sustained growth. It reflects not only increased demand for travel but also confidence in Wichita as a destination and point of departure. More people are choosing to fly in and out of ICT, whether for business, leisure, or connecting to opportunities beyond our region.
This achievement did not happen in isolation. It is the result of a combination of factors: expanded air service options, strong partnerships with airline carriers, continued investment in airport facilities, and most importantly, a thriving local community that is increasingly connected to the rest of the country and the world.
Director of Airports Jesse Romo often emphasizes the close relationship between the airport and the community it serves. As he puts it, “The airport’s growth is reflective of the community’s growth, and we are proud to be a part of such a vibrant community.” That connection is clearly visible in these latest numbers. As Wichita continues to grow, economically, culturally, and socially, so too does the demand for accessible, reliable air travel.
Looking ahead, this record-setting quarter provides both a benchmark and a motivation. The team at ICT remains focused on enhancing the passenger experience, attracting new routes, and supporting the region’s continued expansion. Every new traveler passing through the airport represents not just a number, but a story of business deals, family visits, vacations, and new opportunities.
If the first quarter is any indication, 2026 is shaping up to be a standout year for ICT and the Wichita community as a whole.
