Third Quarter Average Fares Fell 1%

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released its third-quarter 2019 average fare report, showing average fares at Wichita Eisenhower Airport fell 1% from the third quarter 2018.  Wichita had the only fare decrease in the region.  The inflation-adjusted average fare was $392.52 compared to $395.13.  (Average fares are based on domestic itinerary fares, round-trip or one-way for which no return is purchased.)

In Q3 2000, the inflation-adjusted average fare in Wichita was $625.03, 37% higher than today’s fare.  Wichita’s fare is now in line with regional fares thanks to increased competition, particularly from low-fare airlines. Lower fares and new destinations have stimulated travel demand over the last 7 years.

Wichita is served by 7 airlines to 13 nonstop destinations.
