Southwest Airlines will launch nonstop service between Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) beginning March 5, 2026. At that time, the airline will end its service from Wichita to St. Louis (STL).
The schedule change is part of a broader network adjustment in which Southwest is discontinuing St. Louis service from about 21 airports. For Kansas travelers, the shift to Midway will mean access to more than 75 destinations across the Southwest network.
The new Midway flights will offer travelers shorter and more convenient connections. In March 2026, Southwest flights to and from MDW will provide more than 50% additional connecting opportunities within a two-hour window compared to the St. Louis schedule in March 2025. Passengers will also benefit from more one-stop itineraries to destinations available through Midway that were not offered via St. Louis.
With the addition of Southwest’s Midway route, Chicago will now be served nonstop from Wichita by three different airlines. The increased competition is expected to create more options and potentially lower fares for travelers.
