The travel industry has coined a new phrase this year – “revenge travel” – and it’s in full swing at ICT. In May, 58,776 people flew out of ICT, a 436% increase over last year. Scheduled seats also increased 64% over last May. However, enplanements are still 31% below May 2019, in line with 32% fewer seats. Flights were full most of the month, with an average load factor of 87%. Year-to-date enplanements are up 12.37%.
The leisure travel segment accounts for the majority of the passenger volume, but midweek passengers are also increasing – an indication that business travel has resumed. Since the lows in January, Tuesday passenger volume has increased 277% and Wednesday volume is up 345%.
Air cargo continues to grow, with a 21.83% increase in outgoing cargo and almost 10% incoming.
Food and gift receipts increased 560%, rental cars 340% and parking revenue 574% over May 2020.
