Airport Parking Garage, Rental Car Center to Open May 27
Date: May 21, 2015
Mayor Jeff Longwell today announced that the Wichita Eisenhower National Airport new terminal is scheduled to open on Wednesday, June 3.
Also, two major parts of the $200 million new terminal project – the new Parking Garage and Rental Car Center – will open on Wednesday morning, May 27, said Longwell, who was joined by Victor White, the Director of Airports, during the Mayor’s regular Thursday news briefing.
“The new terminal and the addition of the new Parking Garage and Rental Car Center represent a significant improvement for travelers and other customers visiting Eisenhower Airport,” Longwell said. “
We’ve needed these facilities for a long time. We’re very excited that construction is nearly complete. The new terminal project is the airline gateway to our state. It will serve as a first and last impression for many visitors to our region and it reinforces Wichita’s global status as the Air Capital of the World.”
The new terminal and parking garage projects were funded with airport generated revenue and fees collected from aviation system users.
The four-level parking garage offers 1,200 stalls, with 800 under cover, and includes covered crosswalks which take travelers to and from the new terminal. Once the parking garage opens, the current Long Term and Short Term parking lots will close. Cars remaining in those lots will still be able to exit at the current cashier plaza. Arriving customers picking up their cars in the Long Term Lot will follow the same temporary pedestrian path to the lot from the terminal that they used when departing for their flights. Interim parking rates in the new garage are:
- First 30 minutes free
- $2/hour
- $10 for Over 4 hours (maximum daily)
Payment can be in the form of all major credit cards, debit cards, personal and traveler’s checks, and cash.
The new Rental Car Center, which contains the customer service counters for all 9 agencies, is located adjacent to the garage. Rental car pickup and drop-off will now be inside on the first level of the parking structure. Until the new terminal opens in June, rental car customers and parkers using the garage needing to go to and from the current terminal, will access these facilities by following marked walking paths towards the new terminal, and crossing the street at the first crosswalk.
Project construction will continue until later this fall on new surface Close-In Automated and Economy parking lots surrounding the garage.
