Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) will conduct a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17.
The exercise is designed to test the airport’s emergency response plans and the coordinated efforts of airport personnel and local, state, and federal response partners during a simulated aircraft emergency. Participants will include Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Wichita Fire Department, Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Emergency Management, Sedgwick County EMS, airline representatives, and other community partners.
Members of the public may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles, first responders, and personnel in and around the airport during the exercise. Simulated emergency activity, including students from Goddard High School acting as victims, will take place as part of the training. This is only a training exercise, and there is no threat to the public.
Airport operations and commercial airline service will continue as scheduled. Travelers are encouraged to follow airport signage and instructions from airport personnel if they encounter exercise-related activity.
Full-scale exercises are conducted every three years to evaluate emergency response procedures, strengthen coordination among responding agencies, and ensure the airport is prepared to respond effectively to a real-world emergency.
