Wichita Eisenhower National Airport Prepares for Winter Weather with Annual Snow Rodeo

Winter weather may still be weeks away, but Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) is already preparing to keep its runways clear and operations running safely. On Tuesday, November 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, the Wichita Airport Authority (WAA) will host its annual Snow Rodeo, giving airport maintenance crews an opportunity to sharpen their skills and prepare for the challenges of winter weather.

The Snow Rodeo brings together airport employees responsible for snow and ice removal to practice their equipment-handling skills. The primary purpose is to reinforce safety, teamwork, and operational readiness before the winter season begins.

Keeping an airport operational during winter weather requires extensive coordination, specialized equipment, and highly trained personnel. ICT’s snow removal crews are responsible for maintaining runways, taxiways, aprons, and other critical areas to help ensure aircraft can safely arrive and depart, even during challenging weather conditions.

The annual Snow Rodeo is one of several ways ICT prepares for winter operations, providing employees with hands-on experience while highlighting the important work that takes place behind the scenes to keep the airport running.
