A Tribute to the Former Mid-Continent Airport Terminal

We pay tribute to, mourn the passing, and celebrate the life of the Old Mid-Continent Airport Terminal Building.  Saying goodbye is undoubtedly bittersweet to many of the 61,975,102 passengers who flew in and out of the terminal between 1954 to June 2015.

The terminal was born to the City of Wichita in 1954 as the Wichita Municipal Airport Terminal.  It passed-away in June of 2015 as the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport Terminal.

The terminal was a dedicated servant to the citizens of Wichita, the surrounding region, and visiting family, guests and travelers.  It served us faithfully for 65 years.

We wish to honor and pay tribute to this old and trusted friend, and the service it gave to us as it grew, expanded, and gracefully matured to accommodate the increasing economic and travel needs of our region for over six decades.  It was born into the era of radial engine airliners, and passed-away in the jet age.

As we mourn the passing of this iconic structure and old friend, we also celebrate the years of faithful and dedicated service it gave to us.  As we pay tribute to our history, we also look forward to the future, and the many exciting opportunities that the future holds for the City of Wichita and surrounding region.  We now have a successor…the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport Terminal that will help our community greet those new opportunities for, hopefully, another 65 years.

While it is impossible to capture all of the memories that took place in the old terminal, we did preserve some of the events and pictures from over the years.  We hope you enjoy these memories.
