United to Drop LAX Nonstop; Allegiant will Resume LAX Service

March 1, 2015 will be the last United nonstop flight to LAX.  United has made a decision to shrink its operations in LAX due mainly to operational problems in LA.  The operating carrier on the route, Skywest, is cutting 1,000 hours out of its schedule due to pilot staffing issues, also making it difficult for United to continue the route.

The service began May 1, 2013 and was well received by our market.  The original flight departed Wichita 6:00 a.m; arriving in LAX @ 7:25 a.m., and returned at 6:46 pm arriving in ICT at 11:35 pm. which made for a convenient day trip and also provided great connections to Hawaii and points west.   In October, United changed the schedule to a 6:09 pm departure, which was less convenient and reduced connections.

While this is disappointing news, Allegiant will resume its nonstop service to LAX starting June 3, with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  The schedule is available for booking at www.allegiantair.com.
