A record 1,596,229 passengers flew in and out of Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in 2007, an impressive increase of 9.31% over last year, and the airport’s 15th consecutive month of increased passenger traffic. The new record broke the 2004 record of 1,498,749 by almost 100,000 more passengers. Even more impressive is that there were an average of 12,000 more passengers each month in 2007 than in 2006.
“Needless to say we are extremely pleased with the demand for air travel from Mid-Continent Airport,” commented Charles Fletcher, Chairman of the Wichita Airport Advisory Board. “A healthy, vibrant airport is essential to economic development opportunities for the State of Kansas.”
“This kind of explosive growth is placing tough demands on the Airport's terminal and parking facilities. Our new building and parking lots can't come soon enough to meet the growing demand by our customers. We are anxiously awaiting the opening of the new terminal in late 2011 or early 2012," commented Victor White, Director of Airports.
“This year’s traffic growth can be attributed to the addition of two new, non-stop destinations – Los Angeles and Orlando-Sanford, the entrance of Frontier Airlines to our market, and a strong economy,” stated Valerie Wise, Air Service Manager. “The increased passenger traffic gives evidence of the demand for air service at Mid-Continent and is extremely important to maintaining and developing air service opportunities. We are very excited about this growth.”
Mid-Continent Airport is served by nine airlines, three of which are low-cost carriers, 12 non-stop destinations to major hubs, and 50 daily departures.
