Kansas’ Largest Airport Officially Opened in 1954
Wichita Mid-Continent Airport plans to officially mark its 50th Anniversary with a community celebration, airline ticket giveaway and special commemorative merchandise giveaways. The Community Celebration for Mid-Continent Airport is on Friday, September 3 at 7 PM at the Wichita Wrangler’s game against Tulsa. At the event, there will be Airport giveaways INCLUDING free flights to Vegas, complements of Allegiant Air. There will be special commemorative Airport 50th Anniversary giveaways. And the first 250 kids age 12 and under will receive a limited edition Airport 50th Anniversary teddy bear. The special logo on this merchandise was designed by City of Wichita staff and depicts Mid-Continent’s trademark control tower (see sample next page).
Reggie the Purple Party Dude will be on hand for the kids. His website is at http://logikbox.com/raymondeg/reggy.cfm. He used to be “Philly the Fanatic” and travels across the nation to make events even more fun! There is an admission for the game… tickets are as inexpensive as $5. Because of new security measures at Mid-Continent and parking constraints, the decision was made to have the Community Celebration somewhere other than the Airport. Traveling passengers will appreciate this too as they will be able to use the Airport without any additional hassles.
Starting on August 23, there will be a chance to win a trip for two weekdays on B98 on the Brett & Tracy Morning Show. AirTran Airways donated 20 round trip tickets in honor of this landmark in Mid-Continent’s history. Tickets for two anywhere AirTran flies will be given away at 8:05 AM, Monday through Friday, August 23 through September 3.
There will be a special anniversary insert in the Wichita Eagle on Sunday, August 29 for “50 Years of History with Mid-Continent Airport.”
